Box Mines We visited Box Bathstone mines in
1998. I don't have much info on this site so these pages will comprise
mostly of photo's of our visit. The mine is just one of several such
stone mines in the Corsham area where there are well over 60 miles
of tunnels. Some of the mines in this area found new uses during world
war two for munitions storage, in particular the vast Monkton Farleigh
mine, Spring quarry was used as an underground factory for aircraft
engines, guns and aircraft turrets, later Tunnel quarry became a seat
of Government and other areas still have secret uses today. For more
detailed info on the area I would strongly recommend Nick McCamley's
book 'Secret Underground Cities' published by Leo Cooper
