Q : Who owns the tunnels ?
A : Sorry but we agreed not to disclose this when we were
permitted to run the tours. |
Q : Where did all the spoil go ?
A : The spoil came out of the tunnels on conveyors which
crossed the lane and was dumped opposite the complex onto what was
once low lying water meadow. |
Q : How deep are the tunnels ?
A : They actually go into the hillside at pretty much road
level, but the escarpment above gives up to 130 feet of cover. |
Q : How many miles of tunnels are there?
A : Despite local rumours and some misleading figures in
the press there are actually only approximately 3 1/2 miles of
tunnels. They do not extend beyond the 1/4 mile square area of
the site.
|
Q : How many levels are there ?
A : Contrary to local rumours there is only one level giving
a total floor area of 284,931 square feet. |
Q : Were there any fatalities during the construction
?
A : Local rumour suggests there were up to 12 lives lost
during the construction. I know of 6 for certain but there could
have been more.
|
Q : How many people worked in the factory in the 40's
?
A : This has proven hard to establish but we believe it
would have been between 500 and 700.
|
Q : How many people would have manned the bunker ?
A : In the RSG of the 1960's & 70's there would have
been a staff of around 350. In the RGHQ of the 1980's this was
reduced to 136.

Q : Were nuclear missiles ever stored at Drakelow ?
A : The original answer to this was No, but new evidence
is begining to come to light - watch this space!!! |
Q : I've heard that there are lifts hidden on the hill
above that allowed helicopters to be raised and lowered to the
bunker below.
A : Urban myth I'm afraid, no such things have ever existed
here.
|
Q : Were crashed U.F.O.'s or alien bodies kept at Drakelow
?
A : No. |
Q : I have been trying to get hold of a copy
of Drakelow Unearthed, without sucess, can you help ?

of print since Feb 2004. There is now a new version available since
